Cutting pieces

Cut pieces
I thought it would be fun to show how I cut out the ribbon pieces. I made templates with paper, traced each piece onto the glass, then cut them out as fast as I could! It’s a fun game when the pieces are small like that. I cut out all the pieces before I started on each window.
Final Design for Stained Glass Windows

Final Design
I met with my client and she decided on the more abstract design. She wanted to keep the price down, so I took the design and simplified it. I’m glad she decided on this design and I think it still looks good with a more simple ribbon border. I’ve got all the materials except for the rondels. They are coming from a distributor in New York. I’m going to use green rondels, opal jewels and mostly Spectrum glass. I’ll post another blog once I start cutting the glass!
Stained Glass Commission with Cardinal and Magnolias

Cardinal in Magnolia Tree

Close Up
This commission was done for a client as a surprise gift for his wife. They came into my studio while they were visiting Omaha. Since they live in Louisiana, the whole process was done via the internet. My client told me he wanted a cardinal and a magnolia tree in the window, but the rest was up to me. I used Spectrum Opalescent Glass and used mostly 1/8″ lead. I pointed off a lot of the flowers to give the window more of a realistic look. I shipped the windows using UPS ground and it turned out to be a great surprise!
